Ponderings of March 25th

Went to JoAnn Fabrics to purchase a yard of fabric to make a slip for Elizabeth and a pattern (on sale today) for a nightgown for a Christmas gift for Elizabeth. It was the first day of the sale and the store was busy. Unfortunately, there were only 2 cutters (about a 10-15 min. wait) and 2 cashiers (another 10-15 minute wait). Did my grocery shopping at Meijer and got home about 1:00.

In the afternoon I finished up (mostly) the fall retreat brochure, put in 10 new campers, sent out my S.S. email and did a load of laundry. Also listed Jim's 3 Columbus State text books on Craig's list. Not sure, though, if it's too late for this quarter, which starts on Monday.Cut out Elizabeth's pink Easter dress and hope to start sewing tomorrow.

Mark and Bekah came for supper and the evening around 5:45. Had Raclette with potatoes and scrambled eggs and the fixin's. Then we played UNO and a game of Frisbee Golf before watching OSU lose their final basketball game.

Heard Nancy Leigh DeMoss on the radio in the morning. She was talking about the humanity and deity of Jesus. Reminded me of what we learned in class this winter. God took on humanity but was still deity. Full God and fully man. As man he could physically die for us, as God he could take our punishment as He had no sin of His own to pay for. Here are some quotes from her radio program:

The goal is to see Christ, to get to know Him, to love Him, to be ravished by His beauty, and as you do, you’ll find that sin is less alluring and that life’s pressures are less overwhelming when you see the greatness and the grandness of who Christ is.

Now, I’m not saying that we can ever fully understand it because we can’t, but we need to at least affirm that this is true—Jesus, the God/man. This is a cardinal, foundational Christian doctrine, and as I’ve said, it’s something that our finite minds can no-way, no-how comprehend or explain. This is mystery, and we need to acknowledge that when we’re trying to explain it...
We’re dealing with things that are beyond our reach, and the secular world sees that as a cop-out. They say if you can’t explain it, it can’t be true, but the fact is, if we could understand this, if we could put Jesus in our little box that we could figure out, then He wouldn’t be amazing anymore. He wouldn’t be incomparable.

The humanity of Christ means that He is willing to save us, but if He was only human, He would not have had the power to save us. His deity means that He is able to save us! Because He is the God/man, He is both willing and able to save us. Praise the Lord!

Wonderful thoughts that cause me to worship God, my Savior.

One last thought... heard tonight that Jonatan Torres is declining fast. His hospice nurse does not expect him to live through the next 24 hours. This is a 16 year old boy! While I do grieve for his family, I can't help but think how much more alive he will be very soon. I can only imagine what Heaven will be like, but to be with God and be able to completely worship Him is beyond mind-boggling. Praying for the Garwood/Torres families.
